AIR-COOLED KIT

As I have said many times before: No matter when you bought your Bonfire , there are always new kits and retrofit products from us to improve your bike. Now in November I have something very special. Some of you will have heard about it: 

Cooling fins and ferrofliud for your wheel hub motor (air-cooled kit)

As you know, we are constantly working on improving the wheel hub motor drive. After launching a new motor for the Bonfire X in May, we now have a retrofit package available for all Bonfires. In other words, all Bonfires that we have delivered, regardless of whether they have a new or old motor. And what are the advantages?

  1. 30% cooler engine (longer driving pleasure)
  2. Motor cools down twice as fast (shorter waiting time)
  3. Engine runs more efficiently (more range)

We were able to confirm the information from the Internet with our own test. During the first test, we completed a 6 km ride with a gradient of 10% and started at an altitude of 550 m.

With the normal Bonfire X we climbed 462 meters and with the air-cooled kit 548 meters (20% more). It is worth mentioning that the Bonfire X without the kit climbed the last 50 meters of altitude very slowly, while the Bonfire with the kit climbed up to the hill and only then got hot.

After a 15-minute break, the engine temperature of the normal Bonfire X dropped by 40°C and with the air-cooled kit it dropped by 80°C. Then we drove the same route again. The Bonfire X gave up after 114 vertical meters, while the other Bonfire X managed 379 vertical meters (3 times as much). After this, the Bonfire X was able to recover twice as fast with the air-cooled kit in 15 minutes and cooled down to 60 °C.

We had to abort the test for the normal Bonfire X because the engine got too hot again too quickly, while the Bonfire X with the air-cooled kit repeatedly managed over 300 meters of altitude after a 15-minute break. So the longer you test, the better the air-cooled kit performs. 

We have not yet been able to test the influence of efficiency on the range. However, the theory suggests that the lower heat results in fewer losses and therefore the motor consumes less. We suspect the improvement could be a maximum of 5 %, i.e. less than 5 km for the Bonfire X. 

All in all, we can only warmly recommend the air-cooled kit to everyone. It is not expensive. It can be installed in under an hour. And it has impressive improvements for the engine.

BONFIRE Y

We are making progress. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos for you yet. We are currently building the prototype and trying out various ideas. However, I already have 2 pieces of good news for you, because 2 accessories will be available as standard equipment for the Bonfire Y:

  1. YSS gas struts
  2. Underbody protection

To ensure that the Bonfire Y is also safe at higher speeds, we have taken a closer look at the suspension and have come to the conclusion that we can only achieve this with high-quality suspension struts. That is why the YSS shock absorbers are not offered as an upgrade, but are already included with every Bonfire Y. 

And the underbody protection simply looks good and we want every Bonfire Y to look good on the road. That's why the underbody protection is also part of the standard equipment of the Bonfire Y. 

If we make rapid progress by Christmas, we could give you a sneak peak of what's to come before 2024, including a new box, new tank and new seat.
